Understanding your school’s SELFIE-based Digital Action Plan

Introduction

In the case of strategically important changes, such as the implementation of an action plan for the institutional development of digitally supported teaching/learning, one of the most important factors for success is that the stakeholders understand the reasons, drivers, and benefits of the desired future position. In the meantime, they ought to know the disadvantages of the current situation, which areas of the school will be affected at institutional, group and individual level, and how they will be personally affected. That is to say in terms of specific advantages and disadvantages, extra work, extra effort, doing things differently, learning new things, increasing learners’ motivation to learn, measurable improvement in their success, etc.

For those reasons we want to present and make the SELFIE-based Digital Action Plan (DAP) more understandable for the teachers. The module  will focus on the following four subjects:

  1. Understand the strategy and the change:
    – the teaching and learning culture of the school, and the way of teaching and learning;

– the benefits and challenges of implementing digitally enhanced teaching and learning;

– the goals and areas of change.

  1. Present the SELFIE WBL self-evaluation system, which provides a realistic, numerical and objective picture of digital readiness. We will briefly explain the elements, unique characteristics and benefits of the system.
  2. Give ways to interpret the results of the survey.
  3. Share what will happen during the implementation of an institutional Digital Action Plan.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After studying this module, you will:

  • understand the meaning of the analyses behind the institutional digital action plan and therefore understand the institutional strategy developed on the basis of this analysis.
  • understand and identify the drivers/benefits of an institutional digital learning and teaching strategy, and to interpret these drivers and benefits at your own level, and at individual – including learners and dual partner trainers – and institutional levels.
  • identify the eight areas of the SELFIE WBL self-evaluation system and understand their mutual dependencies.
  • interpret the results of the SELFIE WBL report and based on them actively participate in the process of  strategy co-development.

Online, blended and hybrid teaching

INTRODUCTION

Online teaching has become an indispensable component of modern education and refers to the practice of delivering educational content and facilitating learning experiences through digital platforms and the Internet. In whichInternet. Which scope it will be used depends on the school’s digital strategy, technical digital resources that are available for teachers and learners, digital skills of teachers and learners, and readiness of teachers to introduce new ways of delivering and assessing learners’ knowledge and competencies. There are many different models of teaching and learning with the help of digital technology, in this Module we describe online, blended, and hybrid learning.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this module, you will:

  • Get familiar with different distance learning methods,.
  • Be able to choose the right method according to the subject topics and preparing distance learning materials,.
  • Explore teaching methods that are aligned with the school’s digital strategy,.
  • Choose appropriate methods to involve all learners with different skills and needs in the lesson,.
  • Be able to use the methods to involve guests from the field of work and/or instructors in the teaching process.

How to motivate your learners to use digital tools

INTRODUCTION

The main objective of this module is to make learners get an accurate and complete understanding of the interest of digital tools, and draw the link with their professional environment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this module, you will:

  • Be able to explain the benefits of using digital tools for learning and engagement.
  • Understand the role of motivation in learning and how it relates to digital tools.
  • Analyse the factors that can hinder student motivation, particularly concerning technology use.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional learning and the exploration of new digital tools and strategies.

EdTech in the Classroom

#DigitalApps #DigitalTools

INTRODUCTION

Educational technology, or EdTech, involves utilising technology tools in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning experiences. It encompasses a range of resources, including computers, tablets, interactive whiteboards, educational software, and online materials. EdTech offers benefits for both learners and teachers by fostering engagement, motivation, and personalised learning experiences.

While EdTech supports student learning, it also aids teachers in administrative tasks like grading and lesson planning and facilitates communication with learners and parents. However, its effectiveness relies on thoughtful integration into the curriculum, complementing other teaching methods.

The mind map provides an overview of various EdTech tools, such as virtual simulations, online training courses, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), learning management systems (LMS), video tutorials, and gamification. Each tool serves unique purposes, from hands-on vocational training to flexible online courses and immersive learning experiences.

The examples of good practice illustrate how gamification can enhance vocational learning. Using platforms like Classcraft, Kahoot!, and breakoutEDU, learners engage in activities related to graphic design principles, earning experience points and levelling up. This approach enhances pedagogical skills, increases technological competence, improves lesson planning, allows for differentiated instruction, supports assessment and data analysis, boosts learners’ engagement, and encourages collaboration and professional growth.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this module, you will:

  • Enhance pedagogical skills and improve lesson planning.
  • Increase technological competence contributing to collaboration and professional growth.Be able to assess and analyse data.
  • Differentiate instructions and enhance learners’ engagement and motivation.

Create engaging content with the H5P tool

INTRODUCTION

In this module, you will get more information about a practical tool to strengthen learners’ participation, comprehension, and retention as well as assessment of learners’ progress in one place.

H5P is a powerful tool that enables you to create interactive and engaging content for your learners, enhancing their learning experience and fostering their active participation. In this guide, we will explore the various content types and applications available on the H5P platform, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to leverage its potential in your teaching practice.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In this module, you will be:

  • Be able to identify areas where theylearners have a strong grasp of the content and areas that require further study and improvement.
  • Develop the ability to assess information, evaluate its credibility, and make informed judgment.
  • Identify correct and incorrect responses, understand the rationale behind the answers, and address any misconceptions.
