Understanding your school’s SELFIE-based Digital Action Plan

Introduction

In the case of strategically important changes, such as the implementation of an action plan for the institutional development of digitally supported teaching/learning, one of the most important factors for success is that the stakeholders understand the reasons, drivers, and benefits of the desired future position. In the meantime, they ought to know the disadvantages of the current situation, which areas of the school will be affected at institutional, group and individual level, and how they will be personally affected. That is to say in terms of specific advantages and disadvantages, extra work, extra effort, doing things differently, learning new things, increasing learners’ motivation to learn, measurable improvement in their success, etc.

For those reasons we want to present and make the SELFIE-based Digital Action Plan (DAP) more understandable for the teachers. The module  will focus on the following four subjects:

  1. Understand the strategy and the change:
    – the teaching and learning culture of the school, and the way of teaching and learning;

– the benefits and challenges of implementing digitally enhanced teaching and learning;

– the goals and areas of change.

  1. Present the SELFIE WBL self-evaluation system, which provides a realistic, numerical and objective picture of digital readiness. We will briefly explain the elements,unique characteristics and benefits of the system.
  2. Give ways to interpret the results of the survey.
  3. Share what will happen during the implementation of an institutional Digital Action Plan.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

After studying this module, you will:

  • understand the meaning of the analyses behind the institutional digital action plan and therefore understand the institutional strategy developed on the basis of this analysis.
  • understand and identify the drivers/benefits of an institutional digital learning and teaching strategy, and to interpret these drivers and benefits at your own level, and at individual – including learners and dual partner trainers – and institutional levels.
  • identify the eight areas of the SELFIE WBL self-evaluation system and understand their mutual dependencies.
  • interpret the results of the SELFIE WBL report and based on them actively participate in the process of  strategy co-development.
