TOPIC 2: SELFIE WBL as the basis for a digital development plan

SELFIE WBL (Self-reflection on Effective Learning by Fostering the use of Innovative Educational technologies for Work Based Learning) is a free tool designed to help schools embed digital technologies into teaching, learning and assessment. It has a strong basis in research and was developed based on the European Commission framework on promoting digital-age learning in educational organisations. It is:

•  a strategic tool for planning and managing the process of digital transformation and change in the school;
• a 360 degree self-assessment system for evaluating the digital readiness and potentials of the schools, and to foster the use of innovative digital technology in classroom/workplace teaching and home learning;
• a tool to evaluate the teaching/learning process through 8 aspects (quality digital teaching is not only about infrastructure and equipment, but a complex combination of different areas);
• an online tool which can run on any device, such as smartphones, tablets or computers;
• free of charge for all VET schools, available in more than 30 languages and customizable to suit different needs.

The main benefits of using SELFIE WBL for the schools, teachers, learners and dual company partners:

1. Allows you to assess how you are doing in terms of digital technology in a systematic way
2. Designed to enable schools and companies to see their strengths, weaknesses and areas of improvement in digital technology across 8 areas,  through different statements
3. Stimulates discussion about technology in schools and companies
4.  Opens a debate on the future digital plan with the involvement of all stakeholders in the vocational school, based on a 360-degree approach
